Mike Deussen

Coach Mike DeussenMike joined Team Fitness in spring 1998, after being introduced to it at an SGI leadership Offsite. Always an early riser, Mike found the program to be the perfect mix of fun, teamwork, and sweat – Team Fitness allows Mike to push himself as hard as he wishes.

After participating for five years, and serving as a fill-in coach on occasion, Mike took the plunge in 2003 and became a full-fledged coach.

After growing up in San Diego, Mike moved overseas with his family during high school. After two years in Taipei, Taiwan, he attended and graduated from the International School in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where he lettered in baseball, basketball, and soccer. Mike was “athletically active” at UCLA (in the intramural programs), where he graduated with a degree in Economics. Mike also obtained an MBA from Santa Clara University.

Mike is a globetrotter, getting hooked during his overseas high school years.  While he enjoys cultural vacations, his favorite trips are hunting animals (with a camera!): the Big Five in Kenya, grizzly bears in Alaska, tigers in India and Nepal, and gorillas in Rwanda.

Mike has been married to his wife Kathy since 1984 and has two children, Trevor and Megan.
